The Crowfall Crown

A Battle of Wills and Unexpected Allies

Last we left off

The party was in the midst of a chaotic battle against the crow-lord Malcorvus and his crow minions in a forest clearing. Exhaustion was a significant factor, affecting multiple party members. Kestrel had just called upon a celestial guardian, and Mira had brought forth the dawnlight, while Malcorvus had created a bone wall and severely wounded Vale with a whip attack.

Session Flow

  1. Bone Wall and Whip

Kestrel started the round by calling upon a celestial guardian to defend Mira. Mira then brought forth the dawnlight, revealing a second crow. Malcorvus responded by creating a bone wall, trapping Vale, and then striking him with a vertebrae whip, dealing significant force and bludgeoning damage.

  2. Healing and Strategic Retreat

Rowan moved to heal Vale with a powerful healing spell, restoring many hit points. Vale then created a wall of light, blinding Malcorvus, and used a teleportation spell to move himself and Rowan to a safer, elevated position in the trees.

  3. Kestrel's Demise

Malcorvus targeted Vale with a destructive ray, dealing massive force damage. After Rowan struck multiple times in a breath dealing heavy damage, Malcorvus used a word of power to end Kestrel's life, who died instantly but managed to transfer his remaining magical charges to Sera as a final act.

  4. Mira's Resilience and Rowan's Near Miss

Mira called forth another celestial guardian, but was hit by a destructive ray, losing focus. Rowan used a moonlit ward and a healing word, then narrowly survived a deadly touch from Malcorvus thanks to Mira's protective abilities.

  5. Demonic Reinforcements and Sera's Fall

Vale retaliated with a burst of fire. Malcorvus then summoned a bone fiend and a winged fiend through infernal circles. Shortly after, Malcorvus used a word of power to end Sera's life, killing her instantly.

  6. Resurrections and Drake Transformation

Mira called upon divine intervention to bring Rowan back to life. Rowan then used a precious gem to bring Kestrel back to life. Vale, attempting to give Kestrel a healing potion, mistakenly gave him a different potion, transforming Kestrel into a cave drake.

  7. New Allies and Escalating Conflict

A massive portal opened behind Mira, from which emerged a storm drake, a Giant holding a crown, and a burrowing titan (now controlled by Kestrel). The Giant revealed the crown contained a soul, possibly Wyl's or Zolren's.

  8. Cave Drake Unleashed

Kestrel, in his new cave drake form, used his terrifying presence on the devils, then accidentally wounded Mira with a claw attack. He proceeded to use his power to swallow the winged fiend and grab the bone fiend with his tongue.

  9. Antagonist's Frustrated Escape

Malcorvus, increasingly enraged by the party's resilience and new allies, failed to kill Mira with another destructive ray. He then warped reality around himself and disappeared, ending the combat with his escape.

  10. Post-Combat Cleanup and New Leads

With Malcorvus gone, the remaining devils were quickly dispatched by the allied creatures. Rowan used his last precious gem to bring Sera back to life. The party discussed investigating Malcorvus's nests and the magical wards protecting them.
