Recap Raven and The Chronicler: choosing a Discord recap bot

If you are looking for a Chronicler alternative, start with the part of your current routine you want to improve. It might be the recap itself, the information you need for prep or the amount of recording your group gets through.

This comparison covers The Chronicler at rpgchronicler.com and Recap Raven. We make Recap Raven. The Chronicler details come from its public pages, checked on 10 October 2026; we have not run a shared recording through both tools.

Both start where your group already plays

The Chronicler records Discord sessions and produces transcripts and notes. Its setup guide uses slash commands to create a campaign, associate a character with a player, and start or stop recording.

Recap Raven also records in Discord. It produces a player-safe recap with separate GM material, according to the service used for the session. Craig imports are available if your group already records that way.

The Discord recording guide shows the Raven setup, including what to check before the group starts playing.

Compare hours as well as session allowances

Recap Raven offers substantially more free recording time in your first month: up to 31 hours, compared with The Chronicler’s 4-hour monthly allowance. Recap Raven Premium + Memory supports sessions up to 8 hours long, twice The Chronicler’s entire free monthly recording allowance.

Decide what you need between games

The Chronicler documents commands for NPCs, locations, factions and quests, plus campaign chat and artwork generation. That may suit a group that prefers managing campaign details through Discord commands.

Recap Raven posts recaps directly in Discord and keeps them together on your campaign page. You can also choose to share the campaign publicly for free.

Recap Raven’s Searchable Memory tracks NPCs, locations and items, with hooks and quest logs updated automatically from eligible Memory sessions. You can review and edit the campaign record, ask questions with cited answers, and read deeper session analysis in Recap Raven’s private GM material.

If you want to start with old notes, the free campaign tracker explains Recap Raven’s manual import route and its limits.
