RECAP RAVEN

Recording TTRPG sessions with Craig

There are two ways to record a tabletop session on Discord and turn it into a player-safe recap. Record it yourself with Craig and hand Recap Raven the link, or let the Recap Raven bot do the whole thing for you. Both give you the same transcript and player-safe recap, with searchable campaign memory on Memory plans.

Capture audio with Craig

Record with Craig, keep the original multitrack audio, and paste the recording link into Recap Raven. You get every Recap Raven output and you keep your files. The trade-off is that you do it each session: record, grab the link, sign in, and paste.

Recommended

Let the bot do it

Invite the Recap Raven bot once and it records and recaps every session on its own. No link to fetch, no signing in each week, and nothing to do after the game. The recap is waiting in Discord when you finish.

How do you record with Craig?

Use this path when keeping the original audio matters to you.

  1. Invite Craig. Invite Craig to your Discord server (use the Visit Craig button below to open its site).
  2. Join the voice channel. Join the voice channel your table plays in.
  3. Start recording. Start Craig recording with its command. It captures each speaker on a separate track, which makes the transcript far more accurate than one mixed file.
  4. Play your session. Play your session as normal.
  5. Stop recording. Stop the recording when you finish. Craig gives you a link to download and manage it.
  6. Copy the link. Copy that recording link.
  7. Paste it into Recap Raven. Sign in to Recap Raven, start a session, and paste the link. Recap Raven transcribes it per speaker and writes your recap.

Craig’s exact commands live in Craig’s own help and can change over time. Follow Craig for the current steps.

Prefer to skip that every week?

If fetching a link and signing in every session sounds like a chore, the Recap Raven bot removes it. Invite it once and it records your table and produces the recap automatically after every game. You do nothing after the session, and the recap is ready for your group.

What do you get either way?

Record with Craig or let the bot handle it. Either way, Recap Raven turns the session into:

  • A per-speaker transcript, so the text knows who said what.
  • A player-safe recap posted in Discord after the game, with GM secrets kept out of it.
  • GM-only notes for the things the table should not see yet.
  • Spotlight analytics for each session: scene energy and who spoke.
  • A searchable campaign memory you ask with /ask, plus open hooks and next-session prep, on Memory plans.

Frequently asked questions

How does Recap Raven save me time on a Craig recording?

On its own, a Craig recording is just audio, so you either replay hours of it or write the recap by hand. Paste the link into Recap Raven and you get a player-safe recap in Discord minutes later, and on Memory plans a campaign you can ask questions of. The bot does the same automatically after every session, with no link to paste.

Do I need Craig to use Recap Raven?

No. The Recap Raven bot records and recaps your sessions on its own. Craig is for tables that want to keep the original audio, and Recap Raven can turn a Craig recording link into the same recap.

Can I keep my own audio?

Yes. Record with Craig, keep the multitrack files, and paste the recording link into Recap Raven. You get the full transcript and player-safe recap (and campaign memory on Memory plans), and you keep your audio.

Does Recap Raven store my audio?

No. Audio is used to make the transcript, then deleted. Your recaps, transcripts, and GM notes stay until you delete them.

How do I turn a Craig recording into a recap?

Record your session with Craig, copy the recording link it gives you, sign in to Recap Raven, start a session, and paste the link. Recap Raven transcribes it per speaker and writes the recap.

Should I use Craig or the Recap Raven bot?

Craig only records the audio. Recap Raven takes it those steps further: transcript, player-safe recap, GM notes, and searchable campaign memory on Memory plans. Use Craig when you want to keep the raw audio yourself, and the bot when you would rather not grab a link and sign in every session. Either way you land on the same Recap Raven output.
