Rolling ability scores for your next character
Start a D&D character with six rolled ability scores. This free stat roller supports 4d6 drop lowest and 3d6, with no account required. Choose the method your DM has agreed to use, then roll all six scores together. Each score has its own dice colour so you can follow the result from the tray to the score card.
How 4d6 drop lowest works
Roll four six-sided dice, discard the lowest, and add the other three. A roll of 6, 5, 3 and 1 gives a score of 14. Repeat that process six times for a full set of ability scores. The result shows which die was dropped, and sixes appear in bold.
Using 3d6 and reading modifiers
The 3d6 method adds all three dice for each score. Both methods produce scores from 3 to 18 before character bonuses. The number in brackets beside each score is its ability modifier: 10 gives +0, 14 gives +2, and 7 gives −2. Character bonuses and other adjustments are yours to apply on your character sheet.
Taking your scores to the table
Agree on score assignment and rerolls with your DM before rolling. Your table may assign scores freely, roll in ability order, or use a different character creation method. Write down the set you plan to use; rolling again replaces all six results. These rolls stay in your browser. For individual checks, damage rolls or custom formulas, open the dice roller.
