SessionKeeper vs Recap Raven: recording at your table or on Discord

If your group plays on Discord, Recap Raven turns the conversation into a player-safe recap and a campaign record you can build on. Start recording free, then use Premium feedback or Memory’s cited answers to help prepare the next game.

SessionKeeper also records Discord, with mobile and browser options for games around a physical table. We make Recap Raven. This comparison uses published features checked on 17 October 2026; we have not tested both tools on the same recording.

Recording on Discord or around a table

SessionKeeper offers recording through its iOS and Android apps, browser and Discord bot, plus audio uploads. That makes it a useful option for groups that alternate between online games and meeting in person.

Recap Raven records through its Discord bot, accepts Craig recordings and pasted transcripts, and can create recaps from your written session notes. If you already play in a Discord voice channel, the recap can arrive where your group is already talking. For a phone-recording workflow, SessionKeeper is the more suitable choice.

Our Discord recording guide walks through setup and the session commands. Ask everyone before recording, whichever tool you choose.

SessionKeeper’s cheapest subscription and its Discord subscription are different plans. Its Free app listing describes joining campaigns created by others; we could not verify a recurring free recording allowance.

Recap Raven includes 5 free Standard recordings in the first 30 days, then 2 every 30 days, each up to 3 hours. New accounts also receive an 8-hour Premium + Memory welcome session and can unlock another within 10 days.

What you get back after the game

SessionKeeper builds session summaries and an updating campaign wiki. Its character portraits, achievements and podcast-style session analysis give players other ways to revisit the adventure.

Recap Raven produces a player-safe recap, with private GM material kept separate. You can add your own GM notes on Free. Premium adds GM feedback and session analytics, including participation and the split between combat, exploration and social play.

SessionKeeper also offers DM and Player Assistant emails. GM advice is a feature of both products; compare the advice with the prep you actually need for next week.

A Note on Recap Raven’s AI Ethics on Image Generation

We at Recap Raven believe that the imagination behind your campaign belongs to you, your players and the artists you choose to work with. We deliberately keep character and scene artwork generation out of Raven’s session tools, leaving those creative choices with GMs, players and artists. We use generated illustrations in Campaign Showcase, on this website and in demonstrations. Our responsible AI approach explains that boundary and our respect for the creators who make this hobby possible.

Check the campaign history while you prepare

An NPC’s offer can be easy to remember roughly and surprisingly hard to remember correctly. SessionKeeper’s Hero plan includes 100 Campaign Assistant messages per month, giving you room to ask about your campaign while you prepare.

The number of questions matters, but so does confidence in the answers. Before you build next week’s adventure around an NPC’s promise or an unresolved quest, you want to know whether the answer matches what happened at the table. We have not tested SessionKeeper’s answer quality, but its website does not show transcript-level citations at the time of our evaluation.

Recap Raven’s Searchable Memory answers include transcript quotes and source links from eligible sessions. You can read the evidence and open the surrounding conversation to check the answer for yourself. Citations do not make AI infallible, but they give you something concrete to check before treating an answer as campaign canon.

Memory sessions with Recap Raven also update Campaign World, quest progress and hooks. You can use Ask privately to plan the next game around that history, with the original session record there when you need to check a detail.

With Memory and player chat enabled, your players can also use /ask directly in Discord with the Recap Raven bot. They get player-safe campaign answers with transcript quotes and source links, so they can check a detail or plan their next move together without leaving the group chat.

Our campaign-memory guide shows the sort of questions you can bring back to your recorded sessions.

Sharing the story with your players

SessionKeeper describes shared campaign information as available to invited campaign members. Its privacy policy says campaign content is not used for AI training and describes opt-in voice identification.

Recap Raven keeps private GM material separate from player-safe recaps. Public Campaign Showcase is optional: choose what to publish, then readers can follow that shared story without an account. Before publishing, check the recap and ask your group what they are comfortable sharing.

Which should you choose?
