Recap Raven and Threadfall: choosing how to keep your campaign
Some groups want a chronicle they can read like a story. Others mostly need to remember what they agreed to do before the next game starts. Many want both, provided keeping it up does not become another job for the GM.
Threadfall and Recap Raven approach that work with recaps and campaign history. We make Recap Raven. This comparison uses Threadfall’s public pages, checked on 10 October 2026, rather than a test of the two products on identical recordings.
Start with where and how you play
Threadfall describes live transcription for games around a physical table as well as Discord recording. Its campaign presentation includes an illustrated codex, chronicle chapters and quote cards.
Raven is built around Discord sessions and Craig recording imports. It separates player-safe recaps from GM review material and keeps those sessions together in your campaign.
If you already use Craig, our Craig import page explains how to bring those recordings into Raven. You can keep using the recording setup your group knows.

Look at what you will open between games
Both products give your group a visual campaign record. Threadfall presents sessions through illustrated chronicles and a codex, with loose-thread tracking to help with prep.
Recap Raven brings together formatted recaps, character spotlights, visual session analytics and campaign records for NPCs, locations and items. Its hooks and quest logs update automatically from Memory sessions, and Searchable Memory answers campaign questions with cited sources.
Recap Raven also lets you publish your campaign in the free, opt-in Campaign Showcase. Players and viewers can follow the story through your shared recaps, while GM-only notes stay private. Read the showcase guide and explore my Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign to see it for yourself.
Campaign answers you can check
Recap Raven’s Ask uses the recorded campaign to find evidence for an answer and checks whether that evidence supports it. Answers include source citations you can open, and Ask reports when it cannot find enough support. Our guide to cited campaign answers explains the approach.
Threadfall describes its Bardic Companion as in-character campaign Q&A drawn from your campaign records. The documentation we checked does not establish whether it offers the same transcript citations and evidence checks. We have not tested its answers against Recap Raven on identical sessions.
Connect your own AI: Recap Raven only
Recap Raven’s MCP connection lets a compatible AI assistant access your campaign without repeatedly copying recaps into a chat. Premium includes access to available recaps, transcripts and manual World data. Searchable Memory adds campaign search and cited answers, using your existing Ask allowance. See how to connect your AI.
Threadfall’s own tools comparison says it does not offer an MCP connector. Its Bardic Companion provides campaign chat within Threadfall.
Neither platform uses your sessions to train AI
Both Recap Raven and Threadfall state that your session content is not used to train AI, including by the AI providers processing it. Both keep the transcript and recap without retaining your audio after transcription. Recap Raven deletes the recording; Threadfall does not store live audio and deletes uploaded recordings after transcription. Read our privacy policy and Threadfall’s policy in the sources below.
If you connect an external AI assistant through Recap Raven’s MCP connection, that assistant’s own data-use terms apply to the campaign content you send it. Check those settings when choosing your AI client.
