Crit Scribbler and Recap Raven both turn Discord sessions into notes your group can revisit. Crit Scribbler offers 4 free sessions a month, downloadable transcripts and optional character artwork. Recap Raven combines player-safe recaps with private GM feedback, table analytics and cited campaign questions, depending on your plan, and also offers a recurring Free tier.

Published by Recap Raven, this comparison uses public product and pricing information checked on 20 October 2026. Neither service has been tested against the other using the same recording. The best fit depends on your game schedule and what you want to do with the session afterwards.

Start with what your players will read

Crit Scribbler sends a summary, key points and memorable moments to your chosen Discord channel. It also saves the full transcript for checking details. That keeps the session record close to the conversation your group is already having.

Recap Raven’s bot records in Discord and creates a player-safe recap. Choose to review recaps manually before sharing, post them automatically into the same channel, or keep them together in a Discord forum. Raven keeps private GM feedback out of Discord and posts only player-safe information back to your group. Both bots avoid the routine of downloading and uploading recording files after the game.

Recap Raven also accepts Craig recording links and pasted transcripts, and can create recaps from written session notes. That gives an ongoing campaign a way to bring earlier adventures into its record before the next recording. Craig imports need only the link, with no local download or conversion.

Browse the public Campaign Showcase to see complete Recap Raven campaign stories, or follow Recap Raven’s Discord recording guide to try it with your own group.

Compare the monthly allowance you will actually use

A group playing every week needs a different allowance from a GM running several games. Compare the recurring allowance as well as the welcome offer, and check the session-length limit before a long game.

Turn the last session into next week’s prep

Crit Scribbler’s World Builder tier adds DM Notes and images for the party, including a group picture. Its entry paid tier includes one player image per session.

Recap Raven lets you add your own private GM notes on Free, which also includes words-by-speaker charts to see how the table shares the conversation. Premium adds GM feedback and deeper analytics for participation, pacing, Pillars of Play and scene energy. Memory adds campaign prep advice and private planning through Ask. Use those observations to decide which loose end deserves attention or who could use more time in the next scene.

Those charts give you things to consider, but the most important measure is how happy your table is. Ask your players whether they are enjoying the game. GM speaking time, player spotlight and the balance of combat, exploration and social play can help you start that conversation. A change across sessions might be worth asking about; it does not tell you on its own whether something needs fixing.

Recap Raven’s TTRPG Statistics analysis gives you community comparisons for session length, combat, Pillars of Play, GM and player talk, and player spotlight. See how your table compares, then choose one thing to try at the next game. The aim is a session your group enjoys, not matching an average.

The session-prep guide shows how to turn the previous game into a manageable plan for the next one. Treat suggested ideas as options: you know which ones suit your players.

A Note on Recap Raven’s AI Ethics on Image Generation

We at Recap Raven believe that the imagination behind your campaign belongs to you, your players and the artists you choose to work with. We deliberately keep character and scene artwork generation out of Raven’s session tools, leaving those creative choices with GMs, players and artists. We use generated illustrations in Campaign Showcase, on this website and in demonstrations. Our responsible AI approach explains that boundary and our respect for the creators who make this hobby possible.

GMs and players can ask about the campaign with Recap Raven

Crit Scribbler gives you session notes and downloadable transcripts to revisit. Recap Raven’s Memory is built for the history that accumulates over a longer campaign: ask about an old promise, an NPC or a forgotten clue across sessions, then check the transcript evidence behind the answer.

Recap Raven’s Searchable Memory answers questions across eligible campaign sessions, with transcript quotes and source links. It says when the saved record does not support an answer. Memory plans start at US$13.99 per month for 5 sessions, including Premium feedback and analytics. Memory sessions also update campaign records, quest progress and hooks, and give you private planning help through Ask.

A quoted transcript lets you check whether the party agreed to something or merely discussed it. Recap Raven links the answer to that conversation so you can inspect the context before relying on it. With Memory and player chat enabled, players can use /ask directly in Discord too, with player-safe answers and supporting sources. Paid Memory plans include an Ask allowance that grows with the plan tier.

Crit Scribbler’s reviewed public pages do not list a cross-session question feature with source citations. Its downloadable transcripts provide a record to read; Recap Raven’s Memory lets GMs and players question that record across sessions.

Recap Raven’s campaign-memory guide shows what to ask when you need to recover an old agreement, a name or an unresolved thread.

Bring the campaign record into your prep workspace

Recap Raven: Automatic Quest Log and Hooks

If your prep lives outside Discord, Recap Raven’s Obsidian plugin imports player-safe recaps into your vault. Its Foundry VTT plugin brings those recaps into your virtual tabletop, keeping the session record close to the next adventure.

Crit Scribbler includes transcript downloads on Free, so you can keep a copy alongside your existing campaign notes. That may be all you need if you prefer to organise the record yourself.

Recap Raven also supports compatible AI assistants through MCP for deeper work with campaign material. Premium includes transcript access; Memory adds campaign search and cited answers. Crit Scribbler’s published information does not list equivalent connections at the time of this comparison.

Memory sessions with Recap Raven also update Campaign World and track quest progress automatically. NPCs, locations, relationships and unresolved hooks stay connected as the campaign develops, giving you a starting point for the next session without rebuilding the record by hand. You can review and edit those entries as the story changes.

Play and recap in your table’s language

Recap Raven supports transcripts and recaps in English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Dutch and Japanese. It detects the session’s main language and uses it for the recap and its headings. See Recap Raven’s language support for examples and current coverage.

Recap Raven provides recaps in your table’s supported language. Multilingual recaps are available on every plan. Free offers best-effort support; Premium and Memory add enhanced cleanup and generated GM insights.

Crit Scribbler’s public product pages do not specify supported languages at the time of this comparison. For a non-English campaign, try a representative session before choosing either tool.

Keep private prep out of the shared story with Recap Raven

Recap Raven separates player-safe recaps from private GM material. Its free public Campaign Showcase is opt-in and shares only player-safe details, so you can publish the adventure without publishing the GM report.

Crit Scribbler’s privacy policy describes using voice-to-text transcripts for summaries and service improvement, security protections for that data, and rights to access, correct or request deletion. It says personal data is retained for as long as needed for its stated purposes. At the time of this review, it does not explicitly address AI training. If that matters to your group, ask for confirmation before recording.

Recap Raven explicitly states that campaign content is not used to train AI and deletes audio as soon as reasonably possible after transcription. Recap Raven’s privacy policy covers recordings, transcripts, private GM notes and deletion, including controls to support GDPR rights such as data export and account deletion. Discuss recording and sharing with your group whichever service you choose.

Consider the quality behind each session

Try both with the same session and compare the results side by side. Did the recap preserve the important decisions? How much editing does it need? Does it help you prepare the next game? Judge the value by what your table gets from each session.

Recap Raven’s campaign spelling dictionary carries your saved name corrections and approved aliases into future sessions, helping keep invented names consistent as the story grows. You can also set each character’s pronouns, giving Raven the information it needs to refer to them correctly instead of guessing from an unfamiliar fantasy name.

Recap Raven publishes more detail about its process: its approach to accuracy describes campaign-question evaluations, while its engineering quality page covers testing, security reviews and monitoring. Readers can inspect those commitments alongside its responsible AI policy. Comparable detail was not found on Crit Scribbler’s public pages at the time of review. That makes Raven’s approach easier to assess, but the session results remain the test of output quality.

Crit Scribbler’s product pages show examples of its Discord output. Recap Raven’s public campaign examples provide longer records to browse across sessions. These help illustrate presentation and detail, but only trying the same session in both tools gives your table a direct comparison.

Which should you choose?

Choose Crit Scribbler if you mainly want Discord notes, downloadable transcripts and a larger recurring session allowance. That can suit a one-shot or a long-running campaign where you prefer to organise the history yourself.

Choose Recap Raven if you want to bring an existing campaign into the service through written notes or pasted transcripts, or use Memory and transcript-backed Ask as the story grows. GMs and players can revisit old promises, clues and NPC conversations through answers with quoted evidence. Its opt-in Campaign Showcase also lets you share player-safe campaign stories with an audience, a useful fit for streamers and YouTubers. Private GM feedback, participation insights and campaign upkeep help you prepare for the next game.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, both offer recurring free plans. Crit Scribbler includes 4 sessions per month. Recap Raven offers up to 31 hours in the first 30 days across 5 Standard sessions and 2 Premium + Memory welcome sessions, with the second welcome session unlocked within 10 days. After the first month, Recap Raven Free includes 2 Standard sessions every 30 days, up to 3 hours each, without a subscription or credit card.

Which languages do Recap Raven and Crit Scribbler support?

Recap Raven supports transcripts and recaps in English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Dutch and Japanese. It detects the session’s main language. Crit Scribbler’s public pages did not list supported languages at the time of this review. For a non-English game, confirm support and try a representative session. See Recap Raven’s language support for details.

Do Recap Raven or Crit Scribbler use campaign content to train AI?

Recap Raven explicitly states that campaign content is not used to train AI. Crit Scribbler’s privacy policy describes transcript processing for summaries and service improvement, but did not explicitly address AI training at the time of this review. Its training policy therefore remains unconfirmed; ask for clarification if this matters to your group.

Can I move a Crit Scribbler campaign into Recap Raven?

Recap Raven supports importing past sessions from written notes for free, creating recaps to bring an existing campaign up to speed. It also accepts pasted transcripts, but there is no direct Crit Scribbler account migration. Check exported speaker names and formatting before importing a transcript. Compatibility with every Crit Scribbler export has not been verified.

Can players and GMs ask their campaign questions using Recap Raven?

Yes. Recap Raven’s Memory lets GMs and players ask campaign questions natively in Discord using /ask, with player chat enabled for players. Answers draw on eligible Memory sessions and include transcript quotes and source links so you can check the evidence. Player answers stay player-safe, keeping private GM information out of the shared conversation. Memory is included in the Premium + Memory welcome sessions and available through Memory plans. Of the two services compared here, only Recap Raven advertises this feature at the time of review; it is not listed on Crit Scribbler’s public pages.

Record your next game with the free Premium + Memory welcome session, then open the GM feedback and start planning the next one.

Free Tier includes 5 Standard sessions in your first 30 days, then 2 every 30 days, each up to 3 hours long, with best-effort multilingual support. A title, short summary and scenes, with basic AI and standard transcription quality. Premium adds richer recaps, PDF exports and GM insights; Memory plans add campaign Ask.
