Game systems

What are these tables playing?

System choice changes what a game asks of its players. This view counts each active campaign once, so a group recording every week does not outweigh one recording monthly.

The headline measure

Systems played by active campaigns

Among campaigns with an identified system

See which systems are represented in this dataset before comparing its pacing or participation figures with your own table.

What this measures

Count distinct campaigns with eligible sessions in the window, using their selected system, supplemented by reviewed session evidence where the setting is blank. Uncertain suggestions are left unspecified. D&D editions are combined. Some smaller system categories are grouped into Other systems. Unspecified systems are excluded from these percentages. Small shares are shown approximately. This shows representation within this sample, not market share.

Spoken languages

Among recordings with an identified source language

See the languages represented at these tables. This does not measure nationality, location or demand across the whole hobby.

What this measures

Count each eligible recording once using validated source-language information, never the translated recap language or a default transcription setting. Smaller language categories, including multilingual recordings where applicable, are grouped into Other languages. Unknown recordings are excluded from these percentages; translated transcripts are not used to fill missing source languages. Language percentages are rounded to whole numbers and may not total exactly 100%.

Other views of the hobby

Groupfinder’s State of Tabletop, October 2026 looks at player interests and groups seeking players. That is useful when considering what to run or where to recruit. Interest in a game is different from a recorded session of it.

Roll20’s historical Orr report distinguishes campaign and account shares and explains changes to system groupings. It is a useful reminder to check what was counted before comparing reports; those 2021 figures are not current popularity estimates.
