Game nights

How much time should we set aside?

Start with the typical recording length, then look at the range. A regular weeknight game and an occasional all-day session need different plans.

The headline measure

Typical session length

2 hr 53 min

Median recording length

A starting point for discussing how much evening your group wants to commit.

What this measures

Half of eligible recordings are shorter than this and half are longer. Recording length includes any breaks left in the recording.

The middle half of game nights

Middle 50% of recordings

2 hr 29 min – 3 hr 21 min

Shows the range around the typical session, so one average does not become a target.

What this measures

One quarter of eligible recordings are shorter than this range and one quarter are longer.

Find the time slot closest to yours and plan around the time your players actually have.

What this measures

Share of timed recordings in each duration band.

See when these groups play. Use this as a conversation starter when arranging a regular slot, not a measure of player availability.

What this measures

Group sessions by the weekday of their actual recording start, in UTC, not upload or processing date. Exclude recordings without a reliable start date. This may differ from the local day at a table.

Average days between sessions

Mean of campaign averages

12.6 days

Weekly play is roughly 7 days apart; fortnightly play is 14. Longer gaps may include holidays or games that were not recorded.

What this measures

Order distinct session dates within each campaign using recording start dates, not upload dates. Calculate positive gaps between consecutive dates within the snapshot window, average within each campaign, then average across campaigns. Requires at least two recorded dates per campaign. Unrecorded games and gaps crossing the window boundary are not observed.

Typical days between sessions

Median of campaign averages

9.8 days

Compare this with the average to see whether longer breaks are pulling the average upwards. It describes recorded games, not promised schedules.

What this measures

Take the median of the same campaign-level average gaps used above. Campaigns with only one recorded session cannot contribute.
